Terms of Use
Last updated: January 2026
These terms govern your use of The Chronology Game, a free online history timeline game.
The short version
The Chronology Game is free to play. Use it for fun, learning, or to settle arguments about whether the printing press came before Columbus. Do not use it to build something that competes directly with us or to scrape our event database.
Using the game
You may play The Chronology Game for personal, educational, or entertainment purposes. No account is required. The game is provided as-is, free of charge.
Content accuracy
We try to ensure historical dates are accurate, but history is complicated. Some events span multiple years, some dates are disputed by historians, and some are approximations. If you spot an error, let us know. Do not rely on this game for academic research or exam answers.
What you cannot do
- Scrape, copy, or republish our event database
- Use automated tools to extract game content
- Create derivative products that replicate the core game
- Attempt to interfere with the game or its infrastructure
- Use the game for any illegal purpose
Intellectual property
The Chronology Game, including its design, code, and curated event database, is our intellectual property. Historical facts themselves are not copyrightable, but our specific selection, presentation, and curation of events is.
No warranty
The game is provided as-is without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uptime, accuracy, or that the game will work on every device and browser combination. It is a free game on the internet. Adjust expectations accordingly.
Limitation of liability
We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the game. This includes but is not limited to: losing a bet about when the telephone was invented, arguments with friends, or disappointment when you learn the pyramids are older than you thought.
Changes
We may update these terms occasionally. Continued use of the game after changes means you accept the new terms. We will update the date at the top when changes occur.
