The Chronology Game

Place historical events on the timeline in the correct order. You have 3 lives - don't lose them all!

What is The Chronology Game?

The Chronology Game is a free online history quiz game where you arrange historical events on a timeline in chronological order. Inspired by classic card games like Timeline and Chronology, it challenges your knowledge of when things happened throughout history.

How to play: Each round, you see a historical event without its date. Place it on the timeline where you think it belongs, before or after the events already there. Get it right and keep building your timeline. Get it wrong and lose one of your three lives.

Love timeline card games? The Chronology Game brings the experience of games like Timeline by Asmodee, Chronology by Buffalo Games, and Anno Domini to your browser. No cards to shuffle, no setup required.

Over 2,000 historical events spanning world history, scientific discoveries, inventions, cultural milestones, sports moments, and pop culture landmarks. Perfect for history enthusiasts, trivia lovers, and students.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this actually free?

Yes, completely free. No ads, no premium version, no "buy more lives". Just free.

Do I need to make an account?

No account required. Just open the page and play. Your high score saves in your browser.

Is this the same as the Timeline board game?

Similar concept, different game. Timeline is made by Asmodee and uses cards you buy. This is a free web version with our own database of events. If you like Timeline, Chronology, or Anno Domini, you'll probably like this.

How many events are there?

Currently over 2,000 historical events, and we add more regularly. Enough that you won't memorize them all.

Can I play offline?

Partially. If you add it to your home screen (it's a PWA), some functionality works offline, but you'll get the best experience with a connection.

Why did I get that wrong? The year seems right.

The game checks order, not exact years. If the card needs to go between 1955 and 1957, and you put it after 1957, that's wrong, even if the actual year is 1956.

Are the years accurate?

We try. History is messy though. Some events span multiple years, some dates are disputed. We use the most commonly cited year.

Is this good for kids?

Yes, family-friendly content. Nothing graphic or inappropriate. Good for anyone who can read and likes trivia.

Why does it say I got something wrong when I know I'm right?

Either the timeline already had events that put yours in a specific range, or there's a date we should double-check. If you're confident we're wrong, let us know.
